Since the time of Greeks, certain individuals have impressed their fellowmen with most amazing feats of memory. They have been able to remember hundreds of items backwards and names, faces and have been able to perform special memory feats such as memorizing whole areas of knowledge perfectly, or remembering decks of cards in the order anyone chose to present them. In most of these individuals were using special memorizing principle known “mnemonics”. Traditionally, these principles have been scorned as mere tricks but recently attitude towards them has changed. It has been realized that methods which initially enables minds to remember something more easily and quickly and then to remember it for longer afterwards, actually use brains natural ability. Current knowledge about the ways in which our minds work shows that these principles are indeed closely connected to basic ways in which brain functions. The use of mnemonic principles has consequently gained respectability taught in universities and schools as traditional process. The improvement of quick memory performance that can be achieved is quite remarkable and range of techniques is wide. Indeed the beginning of 1990s saw the establishment of memoriad – the world memory championships. As a result of these championships, staggering feats of memory are being achieved, previous psychological limits are being smashed, the boundaries of what is possible are being attended and amazing new records established.Dominic.O.Brien, the first world memory champion, has already memorized a complete pack of cards in 42.6 secs, as well as memorizing randomly generated 100 digit binary number in 57 secs.
